1,000 Blank White Cards (Game)

Wrote out the rules for One Thousand Blank White Cards (1kBWC)

It's a card game where you make the rules

This is a really fun game I found online... But I couldn't find the rules written out in easy to read instructions... Where the rules were written out, everything was convoluted and almost too complex to understand -- so I compiled everything I could find, after I read other board & card game rule books to figure out a good structure

Basically
• Win by earning points
• Earn points by playing cards (cards you made)
    • Cards are written / drawn on blank index cards

• The cards can either give (+) or take away (-) points
• Play cards (applying the points and / or effects) on:
    •  yourself
    • everyone (including yourself), or
    •  another player
• Some cards change rules -- ex: stealing or discarding cards, skipping turns, etc.

• Points, hands, and even rules change drastically during the game
• (usually) The person with the most points when the draw pile runs dry WINS!!!

HOW TO PLAY

YOU NEED
• 2-8 Players
• Index cards (a lot - unlined)
• Pens, pencils, etc.
• Time to play

PRE-GAME PHASE
Each player creates (draws) 10-20 cards on index cards
Each card must include:
    • Title
    • Picture
    • Explanation

[example photo]

Pictures should be quickly sketched -- stick-figures are fine
NOTE: Be creative!! This is one of the funnest parts... This, and seeing what cards the other players made. You can include references to celebrities, history, film, art, fashion, math, sports, music, or anything else you can think up.

IMPORTANT TERMS

  • Hand - the cards a player holds
  • In Play - a card face up on the table, whose points or effects are active
  • Discard - a pile where cards go after their ability has been used, or someone discards it (like a graveyard for the cards -- RIP)
  • Turn - the time for one player to do all phases [see Turns & Game Play below] before the next player begins
  • Round - from the time of your turn, until each player has 1 turn, before starting back at the original player **it starts when you play a card, and ends when the player before you ends their turn

CARDS
The basic card types are "Point" and "Rule" cards:

    POINT CARDS
+ or - some amount of points

Before making cards decide the following for point cards:
        • increments - what number (1, 5, 10, 1000 etc.)
range - how low or high a card's points can be (-100 to +100, -50 to +1000, etc.)

    RULE CARDS
Modify the rules of the game
    This could include:
         Discarding
         Turn skipping
         Card stealing
         Point manipulation
         Whatever you can think of!!

For card examples and ideas see my post "50 1kBWC Example Cards: Part 1"

TURNS & GAME-PLAY
    • Shuffle all cards players made together
    • Designate draw & discard piles

    • Group determines number of cards you have in a hand (around 5)
    • Group determines who goes 1st

EACH TURN:
Note: This may differ depending on rule cards in play

1) Draw 1 card from draw pile
2) Play 1 card by placing it face up,
applying points and / or effects to:
    a) yourself -- play in front of yourself
    b) everyone including yourself -- play in middle
    c) another player -- play in front of them

3) Read card aloud
4) Apply any rules or points

WINNING
NOTE: Yeah, someone wins in the end, but it's more about the fun of creating cards, seeing what cards others made, being with friends, and watching everyone (yourself included) constantly get a huge amount of points or lose them all (sometimes in a single turn)...

The Player with the most points WINS!!!

Game ends when *(group decides which):
    1) The first Player's Hand is empty (fast game)
    2) Draw Pile runs dry (medium game)
    3) Everyone's Hand is empty (long game)

Count up points (applying rule cards that add or subtract points)
NOTE: Wait to count until the end -- points change drastically during the game (just estimate while you're playing, by looking at a Player's cards)

TIPS
During the Game:
• Keep blank index cards nearby in case an awesome new card idea hits ya'!
• Either shuffle new cards in for play during this game, or save it for the next game
